Instructor: Kaleigh Swift

Class type: Take Notes! | These are our classic "lecture-styled" classes, where you're given lots of in-depth information by a knowledgeable instructor. Anyone is welcome to attend, but these classes are geared toward folks with more than a passing interest in the subject.

WHAT YOU'LL GET IN THIS CLASS:

  • A deep-dive, instructor-led tasting.
  • A welcome cocktail.
  • A flight of fortified wines from across the world in a diverse range of styles.
  • Light fare to snack on.
  • Special pricing on all featured beverages.
  • Some lasting memories!

Join wine enthusiast and globe trotter, Kaleigh Swift, as she explores the history, culture, and creation of fortified wines. Fortified wines are a kaleidoscopic variety that have been "fortified" with spirits, aromatized with herbs and spices, oxidized, or even heated to preserve them. These wines traveled the world under grueling conditions, from down the rapids of the Duoro Valley and across the blistering coasts of the Mediterranean. When new preservation methods arose, people continued to make these wines traditionally because they loved the flavors these techniques imparted. Wines like port, sherry, madeira, Marsala, vermouth, and more all fall under this banner term. These wines are not your grandmother's tipple of cloyingly sweet "creamed sherry," but range from bone-dry and salty to raisiny sweet and nutty, at times delicate and ethereal to heady and intense. Join us for an unforgettable evening exploring one of the best kept secrets of the world of wine!
