Class Type: Hands-On! | These are our most involved and participatory classes, where you get the opportunity to learn a hands-on skill. Anyone can do it, though--no prior experience required to attend!
WHAT YOU'LL GET IN THIS CLASS:
- chef-led demonstration
- F44 sourdough starter to take home and tend to
- make your own sourdough bread dough to take and bake at home using the lessons you've learned
- half loaf of cooked sourdough to snack on
- enjoy a light lunch of sourdough bread, meats, and cheeses
- take-home notes and recipe
- some lasting memories!
Join our lead baker Chris for our first ever sourdough baking class! In this 4-hour long masterclass, Chris will lead you through the basics of sourdough baking, from what it means for bread to be sourdough or naturally leavened, how to maintain a healthy starter, the importance of using quality flour, and how to shape, score, bake, and store sourdough breads. A light lunch of sourdough bread, meats, and cheeses will be served during the class as well for you to savor and study Chris' bread. Whether you've made sourdough bread before or are new to sourdough baking, this class is designed for everyone to learn something new. You'll leave this class with a sourdough starter, dough to take and bake at home, and some baked bread as well.
IMPORTANT STUFF:
- Tickets are non-refundable. If you cannot attend a class you have registered for, registration may be transferable to another France 44 class, or, if given a 48+ hour notice, we can issue you a class credit.

We love kids, and they are welcome in this class! All of our cooking classes are suitable for children 16+, and we welcome younger children as well, but please email us before you purchase a ticket so we can help determine if a particular class is appropriate for your kiddo! Children must be attended by an adult during the class.

- Parking in our lot is very limited, and the center spots are 30 minutes only. However, parking is available on 44th Street, France Ave, and Drew Ave S. Please refer to THIS MAP for more parking information!


MEET THE INSTRUCTOR:
Chris Boles
Chris is the Head Baker at France 44. When his hands are not covered in flour and dough they are covered with grease, oil and debris from antique tractors. He was the owner and operator of Fire & Flour Bread and was once featured in a national magazine as one of the top ten up-and-coming bakers to watch.
